The month of May has always been dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. As we welcome the month of May here in Naga, we also celebrate our Beloved Ina through our observance of Peñafrancia de Mayo. Yesterday, we kick-off our month-long celebration with the opening of the Marian Exhibit here at the Museo de Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia. The Marian Exhibit features the different images and titles of the Blessed Virgin Mary hailing from the various municipalities of the Bicol Region. On June 5, 1898, Aguinaldo issued a decree at his house located in what was then known as Cavite El Viejo proclaiming June 12, 1898 as the day of independence. The Acta de la Proclamacion de la Independencia del Pueblo Filipino was solemnly read by its author, Ambrosio Rianzares Bautista, Aguinaldo's war counselor and special delegate. The 21-page declaration was signed by 98 Filipinos, appointed by Aguinaldo, and one retired American artillery officer, Colonel L.
