Monday, August 22. Baralikan na po sa eskuwela! This day marks the official start of a new school year for the Department of Education (DepEd) and the first time students will be back for in-person classes after two years. Please be on the lookout for the weather, though.
Thursday, August 18 this year is a holiday. Proclamation No. 37 issued by Executive Secretary Victor Rodriguez, by authority of the President, has declared the day as a special non-working day in Naga City to honor the memory of former Mayor and SILG Jesse M. Robredo.

The month of August is typically associated with the celebration of Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa. Did you know it’s also History Month in the Philippines? Yup! The late President Benigno S. Aquino, through Proclamation No. 339, series of 2012, moved the observance of History Week from 15 to 21 September to the whole month of August. The same proclamation renamed the occasion as “History Month” to “emphasize the most significant turning points in Philippine history.”
Among the many prominent Filipinos born this month are National Artists Jose Garcia Villa (August 5) and Larry Alcala (August 18); Pres. Manuel Quezon (August 19), and President Ramon Magsaysay (August 31).
August, by the way, is the eighth month in our calendar, just a few weeks shy of Naga’s merry month of September.
