Naga City Develops Future-Ready IoT Innovators thru Strategic Partnerships

NAGA CITY —The City Government of Naga (CGN) is demonstrating a commitment to developing a pool of innovators in the rapidly expanding Internet of Things (IoT) sector.

A new initiative, commencing August 2025, will provide comprehensive hands-on IoT training to public and private senior high school teachers and students.

This collaborative effort– involving the City Government (CGN) , ADNU-MAGIS (the Ateneo de Naga’s technology business incubator), DOST Camarines Sur, and other key stakeholders– leverages existing resources and expertise to create a sustainable innovation and skills development program.

The program’s design focuses on practical applications, including microcontrollers, ESP32 modules, and LoRaWAN technology. Faculty and students from selected schools will participate in the pilot run, which includes exposure to IoT kits, certified teacher training, and student-led project outputs, enabling them to join hackathon opportunities.

The City Government– through the Investment and Tourism Promotions Office (ITPO)– and ADNU MAGIS established the Naga City IoT Laboratory in 2023 as part of a Startup Development Program that aims to establish a robust local startup ecosystem. The first of its kind in Southern Luzon, the facility was equipped through an Innovation Grant from the National Innovation Council and the National Economic and Development Authority (now the Department of Economy, Planning and Development) with additional support from the private sector, particularly ThingsPH Inc. and Packetworx Inc. It provides access to equipment, technical training, and mentorship for startups, college students, and faculty working on IoT prototypes. With this current initiative, the lab is now bringing its services to students and faculty in senior high schools.

By investing in future-ready skills for students and educators, Naga City is reinforcing its position as a regional center for emerging technologies.
