Naga City, an independent component city located in the Province of Camarines Sur, Region 5 (Bikol) has long been known as a Center for Good Governance. A legacy of the late and much-loved former Mayor and Interior Secretary Jesse M. Robredo, this was built upon the yearnings of its people and made possible with their active participation.
Transparency and accountability are key concepts of good governance. With the rise of the Information Age, the Internet has become an indispensable tool for actualizing these. In the early 1980s, almost as soon as technology was available, Naga City launched its own website at about the same time the local government of unit of Naga (LGU Naga) had set out to computerize its key operations. Its mandate is provided for in the iGovernance Ordinance (Ordinance No. 2002-063) and is managed by the iGovernance Team.
The website is in its Third Edition as the city leadership under Mayor Nelson S. Legacion presses forward to post-pandemic recovery and growth. It is guided by the same principles and objectives that inspired its existence: promote the city and its people to the rest of the world; provide vital information that is openly shared with its constituency; use of the Internet and other digital tools to bring its services closer to the people; and to serve as a tool to supplement and enhance civic participation in government.
