Naga City mourns the passing of Fr. Danilo B. Isidro SJ, a visionary leader whose transformative contributions have left an indelible mark on the city’s creative sector and the broader animation industry in the Philippines. His unparalleled dedication to innovation and storytelling earned him the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPI) at Animahenasyon 2024, cementing his legacy as a true pioneer in the field.
In 2015, the Ateneo de Naga University’s Department of Digital Arts and Computer Animation (DACA) was recognized with the Juan Q. Miranda Award—Most Distinguished Mayoral Award. This honor was a testament to Fr. Dan’s exceptional leadership, which elevated Naga City to the global stage in technology and creativity.
Fr. Dan’s influence transcended the Four Pillars of Ateneo de Naga University. As an educator and mentor, he played a pivotal role in the development of both traditional (2D) and digital animation curricula. Inspired by Fr. Dan, various educational institutions in the public and private sectors participated in animation and multimedia training, nurturing a thriving creative community whose artistry continues to amplify Naga City’s reputation as a hub for excellence in the arts.
His partnership with the Naga City Investment Board (NCIB) resulted in the creation of the Naga City Creative Media Center (NCCMC). This initiative became a launchpad for startups in the creative industry, eventually evolving into the Digital Innovation Hub (DIH)—a dynamic platform that empowers local talents and businesses to flourish in the digital era.
Moreover, Fr. Dan championed the use of animation as a powerful medium to celebrate and share Bicolano heritage, culture, and folklore with the world, fostering a deep sense of pride and identity within the community. Himself a multi-talented artist, Fr. Dan’s passion energized and complemented the city’s vision as a vibrant hub for creative endeavors rooted in its rich culture and heritage.
As we honor the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Fr. Danilo B. Isidro SJ, we celebrate his unmatched contributions to creativity and innovation. His visionary work has profoundly transformed lives and positioned Naga City as a beacon for animation and digital arts. While his passing is a tremendous loss, his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
