RESOLUTION URGING LOCAL RADIO STATIONS OPERATING WITHIN NAGA CITY AND THE 3“ DISTRICT OF CAMARINES SUR
TO REGULARLY PLAY BICOLANO MUSIC BY ALLOCATING AT LEAST TWENTY (20) MINUTES OF AIR TIME DAILY
On Joint and Collective Motion
WHEREAS, Executive Order 255 was issued by Former President Corazon Aquino in 1987 to give due recognition to Filipino music and artists. Under EO 255, “all radio stations shall broadcast a minimum of four original Filipino musical compositions in every clockhour of a program with a musical format.”
WHEREAS, Bicol is rich in culture and arts – not only artists but equally so musicians. Music is the soul of language. Giving our Bicolano musicians a platform through radio stations is a way of celebrating the Bicolano spirit. Bicolano Music includes songs in Bicol, original or cover. Dialects. It likewise includes those in English or other dialects, but was performed by persons with Bicol roots.
WHEREAS, to mirror the intent of EO 255 as well as to support and uphold Bicolano music, it would be ideal to urge local radio stations to give due regard and patronage to Bicolano musicians for the welfare of our heritage and identity, which diversity inks a peculiar touch to this nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, on joint and collective motion of the 15th Sangguniang Panlungsod of Naga;
BE IT RESOLVED, as it is hereby resolved, to urge all radio stations operating within Naga City and the District of Camarines Sur to regularly play Bicolano Music by allocating at least twenty (20) minutes of air time daily.
LET COPIES of this resolution be furnished to the Honorable City Mayor, for her information, and the Naga City Arts and Culture Coalition, Bicol Pop, and all local radio stations operating within the City of Naga and the 3rd District of Camarines Sur, for their information and favorable action.
