Naga City has secured renewed commitment from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to support key infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening connectivity, resilience, and public facilities in the city.
During an official visit and coordination meeting with City Mayor Maria Leonor G. Robredo, DPWH Secretary Vivencio “Vince” B. Dizon expressed support for several infrastructure priorities identified by the city government. These projects include improvements to national road networks, upgrades to major public facilities such as the Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum, and rehabilitation of critical drainage systems.
Among the infrastructure commitments discussed were efforts to complete unfinished or ongoing projects, including the Center for Safety and Resiliency (CESAR), construction of additional classrooms at City College of Naga, and the Multipurpose Gymnasium in Balatas.
The Secretary highlighted that feasibility studies are underway for the proposed convention center in the Hacienda de Naga area, emphasizing the substantial financial support needed for its completion.
Aligned with national priorities, DPWH reaffirmed its support for nature-based and resilient infrastructure solutions. Naga City was identified as one of the pilot areas under the Oplan Kontra Baha program. It is an initiative launched by the national government that focuses on systematic clearing, desilting, declogging, and rehabilitation of waterways and drainage systems to mitigate flooding and safeguard communities.
The city government and the DPWH also discussed continued collaboration on public transport terminals, road retrofitting, and related supporting infrastructure to enhance mobility and logistics within Naga City and its neighboring areas.
Mayor Robredo expressed appreciation for the agency’s commitment, emphasizing that infrastructure development plays a key role in enabling economic activities, improving quality of life, and strengthening the city’s readiness for future growth.
With these reinforced partnerships and planned infrastructure interventions, Naga City looks forward to continued progress in public works that support long-term resilience, service delivery, and sustainable urban development.
