“Further strengthen and expand grassroots sports development in our city.”
This is the directive of Mayor Leni Robredo as the city launches the “Laro at Saya” program, which is scheduled to take place at Plaza Rizal on June 16, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
Francis Barja, Naga LGU’s sports consultant, said that the program will be carried out through sports camps in the city’s 27 barangays, bringing sports development closer to communities and encouraging greater participation among children and residents.
A highlight of the launch will be the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the City Government of Naga, led by Mayor Robredo, and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), headed by PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio.
Featured activities during the launch include weightlifting, chess, gymnastics, sepak takraw, taekwondo, pencak silat, football, and Zumba.
Children who wish to participate are required to register beginning at 4:00 p.m. The first 250 kid-registrants will receive free T-shirts. Participants will also have the chance to win sports equipment through giveaways and raffle draws.
Laro’t Saya sa Parke (LSP) was established through Memorandum Circular No. 49 issued by the Office of the President of the Philippines. It is a park-based and family-oriented sports-for-all program of the Philippine Sports Commission designed as a national campaign that encourages Filipino families to play and learn sports together.
Through this program, parks become venues where family members can develop and practice the values of togetherness in sports and in life. The initiative aims to promote appreciation for sports, encourage lifelong healthy habits among adults and senior citizens, strengthen support systems among families and peers, and foster the involvement of communities, government organizations, and non-government organizations.
The LSP Program promotes participation in a wide range of sports and physical activities, including aerobics, karatedo, arnis, taekwondo, badminton, volleyball, chess, indigenous sports and games, football, and tai chi. via Jason B. Neola, CMO-Public Information Division head
