The city government of Naga formally launched its grassroots sports development program last Sunday, April 12, 2026, at the Mabolo Covered Court, drawing enthusiastic participation from children and parents eager to take part in the initiative.
Dubbed “Maogmang Mag-Summer sa Naga,” the program caters to children aged 6 to 12 and aims to introduce them to various sports while nurturing discipline, teamwork, and healthy living at an early age.
Even before its official rollout, the program had already generated strong interest, with many parents expressing their willingness and readiness to enroll their children—an early indication that the initiative could become a blockbuster community undertaking.
Following the launch, the Office of the City Mayor, through Sports Consultant Francis Barja, and the Education, Scholarship and Sports Office (ESSO), headed by Ernani Suron, in partnership with the Sararong Kajovenan para sa Kauswagan (SKK), are now finalizing the schedule of the free summer sports camp. The camp is set to roll out across the city’s 27 barangays in the coming weeks.
The summer sports camp will be offered free of charge and is designed to equip participants with fundamental skills, knowledge, and capabilities in their chosen sports. Among the disciplines to be offered are volleyball, basketball, swimming, taekwondo, archery, sepak takraw, chess, and other sporting activities.
The initiative forms part of the broader sports development agenda of Mayor Leni Robredo, who continues to push for programs that foster youth development through sports, particularly at the grassroots level.
Interested participants may coordinate with their respective barangay halls and approach SKK representatives for enrollment details. They may also contact Sports Consultant Francis Barja at 0967-983-5133 for further information. I via Jason Neola
