The City Government of Naga, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), conducted its first-ever flood drill and massive Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign on June 30 in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) and barangay and SK officials.
The initiative was launched following the directive of Mayor Leni Robredo, who emphasized the need for Nagueños to become proactive and prepared in the face of flooding and other calamities.
“Be proactive survivors, never hapless victims of flood,” the mayor said as she instructed CDRRMO head Raynor Rodriguez to strengthen the city’s disaster preparedness efforts.
Rodriguez said the activity aims to equip communities with correct information, proper education on flooding risks, and effective communication strategies before, during, and after calamities. The flood drill and IEC campaign particularly focused on Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (BDRRM) members, Sangguniang Kabataan officials, and residents from 18 flood-prone barangays located in Central Business District 1. | via Jason B.
