We would like to congratulate the five startup teams from our Idea2Startup partner institutions– Ateneo de Naga University (ADNU), Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology (BISCAST), Naga College Foundation (NCF), and University of Nueva Caceres (UNC). These startup teams have been awarded grants through the city’s Digital Innovation Fund, enabling them to build their prototypes designed to solve community problems.

As a collaborative effort between the city government and the academe, Idea2Startup supports innovation and pushes for technopreneurship, particularly by empowering students to turn their projects into startup ventures. The grantees have successfully completed Bootcamp, Ideation, Pitching Challenge and are now ready to execute their projects.

The following startup teams are:

Team RediSetCode, composed of students from the College of Computer Studies of NCF, secured 20,000 pesos for their startup project on gamified learning management system for computer-related subjects.

Team M.U.T.E, from the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Engineering of BISCAST also received 39,400 pesos for the development of a device that eliminates unwanted noise in large areas using cancellation technology.

In addition, from ADNU, Team STUBU.AI, representing the College of Computer Studies, received 57,801.02 pesos for the development of a personalized learning platform leveraging Large Language Models. Likewise, Team Drain-Aid, from the College of Science, Engineering, and Architecture was awarded 56,000 pesos for a drainage monitoring system designed to revolutionize urban water management practices.

Finally, Team Patabang from UNC’s esteemed College of Engineering and Architecture was granted 53,400 pesos for their platform that aims to connect students to student tutors.

The Investment and Tourism Promotions Office disbursed a Digital Innovation Fund totaling to 226,601.02 pesos, affirming the city’s commitment to nurturing digital innovation. Following the awarding ceremony, an orientation on the Liquidation Guidelines was conducted, providing guidance to the recipients on the proper utilization and processing of their allocated budgets.

𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔𝟮𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗨𝗣 𝗣𝗜𝗧𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗚𝗘

As the final phase of the Idea2Startup selection process, the 17 shortlisted startup applicants engaged in the Pitching Challenge organized by the Investment and Tourism Promotions Office (ITPO) at the CMO Conference Room, City Hall Compound last December 5, 2023.

With enthusiasm, the student teams passionately delivered their 5-minute pitch, presenting their innovative and brilliant ideas, to the esteemed panel from various offices, led by Mr. Reuel Oliver, the Executive Director of ITPO. The students also went through the intensive Q&A by the panel members to further prove the viability of their projects.

Hailing from ADNU, BISCAST, NCF, and UNC, all participating teams exhibited impressive performances which reflected their hard work and effort in preparing for the pitching challenge.

UNC and LGU NAGA partners to implement Idea2Startup held last July 4, 2023 at the City Mayor's Office, Naga City Hall.
The Naga City Government through the Naga City Investment Board (NCIB) collaborates with the University of Nueva Caceres (UNC) to implement the Idea2Startup program as part of the city’s Digital Innovation and Startup Development Program.
 
The Memorandum of Agreement was formally signed on July 4, 2023, at the City Mayor’s Office. The signing was led by Hon. Mayor Nelson S. Legacion and UNC President Dr. Fay Lea Patria M. Lauraya. They were also joined by: Mr. Elmer S. Baldemoro, City Administrator; Mr. Reuel M. Oliver, NCIB Executive Director; Mr. Paul John C. Legaspi, NCIB Investment Promotion Officer; Dr. Nora Elizabeth F. Maniquiz, UNC Vice President for Research, Extension, and Linkages; Mr. Jason Keith Boñaga, AEM, EMDRCM, MBA, Director/CEELI-TBI; and Mr. Nico A. Ogarte, MBA, OIC-Director/Research Center.
 
The Idea2Startup program seeks to promote the development of idea-stage startups by providing funding support to develop their prototypes. Through this, UNC students and faculty can access support to turn their prototypes into viable technology startups, even after students’ senior year/graduation from UNC.

Ateneo de Naga University Idea2Startup Program

Eight (8) teams comprising students from the colleges of Engineering and Architecture, Computer Studies, and Business and Accountancy received grant funds for their startup projects last June 21, 2023.  The funding comes from the city’s Digital Innovation Fund (DIF); and is part of the Idea2Startup Program. 

The Idea2Startup Program, a pioneering initiative of the City Government of Naga through its Investment & Tourism Promotions Office, serves as a vital component of the city’s Startup Ecosystem Development Program. Its primary objective is to provide support to students who are working on senior-year or capstone projects with the potential to evolve into viable startup ventures. The program was initially launched in 2021, commencing with nine (9) startup teams from then College of Science and Engineering at Ateneo de Naga University as the first batch to receive grant funds.

This year’s 8 team comprise the second batch and comes from different colleges. They are:

AGAPAY – a wearable device that includes falling detection sensors to aid the elderly or the medically-ill get in touch with local hospitals or emergency contacts.
