This year’s batch of the city youth officials is studying the possibility of using a renewable energy to be able to provide solution to the high cost of electricity sourced thru traditional power generation.

At the launching of Just Energy Transition X or JETx, City Youth Mayor Jose Patricio Camato said that his colleagues are also expecting that their project, once realized, will serve as a facility to address the shortage in electricity being experienced by almost all sectors in our time.

“JETx is a transition away from our current energy system to one that considers sustainability, environmental impact, climate change, human health, economics, employment, poverty and social equity,” he said.

Last Friday, July 15, the city youth officials spearheaded the conduct of a seminar-workshop called the Climate and Energy 101, a tool to orient and convince the workshop participants, most of whom are young professionals, about the advantage and importance of renewable energy including social environmental issues and different concerns on environment.

In partnership with Reboot Philippines, a renewable energy transition institute, the youth officials are pushing for the establishment of a regional hub in Bicol with Naga City as pilot area.

“As we push through with our advocacy, we plan to come up with relevant program and activities regarding the use of renewable energy, which will, once realized, be of help to address important concerns of every energy consumer like power outages and other problems that resulted in and brought about by the shortage of power supply,” he said.

The youth official said because of Naga’s geographical situation, it can produce geothermal power as alternative energy.  “What is important is for us to become progressive when it comes to renewable energy production and use,” he said.

The renewable energy utilization project is being pursued under the guidance and close supervision of the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO).
