NAGA CITY, CAMARINES SUR — On September 20, the Naga River transformed into a sacred stream of prayer and praise as 1.8 million devotees gathered for the Fluvial Procession of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, the emotional crescendo of the Peñafrancia Fiesta 2025. The flower-laden pagoda carrying Ina—escorted by voyadores and river guards—glided through candlelit waters, embraced by chants of “Viva La Virgen!” and waves of tears, gratitude, and jubilation.
The procession began at the Danlugan, with the image of El Divino Rostro leading the way. As the pagoda approached the Basilica Minore, thousands lined the banks, bridges, and balconies, waving white handkerchiefs and whispering prayers. The river shimmered with petals and devotion.
“This is not just tradition—it’s a homecoming,” said Fr. Glenn Vergara, one of the procession coordinators. “Ina returns to her people, and her people return to her.”
Security was tight yet reverent, with over 1,000 personnel from the Philippine National Police, Coast Guard, and volunteer brigades ensuring safety. The Joint Operations Center (JOC) confirmed the historic turnout, making this year’s Fluvial one of the largest in Peñafrancia history.
Mayor Leni Robredo, through an executive order suspended work and classes on key dates, allowing full participation and ensuring public safety. Livestreams and real-time updates were provided via the city’s social media platforms, making the experience accessible to those unable to attend in person.
